See the classOur story
A family-owned dojo in Nedlands, built one class at a time.
Where we are
Perth's School of Freestyle Martial Arts is on Government Road in Nedlands, behind Karrakatta cemetery, with plenty of parking. Operating since 2001, we have seen many local and out-of-area kids progress from Little Dragons all the way to black belt. Some of those founding students now assist as instructors across our classes, which says everything about the community built inside this dojo.
Our story, year by year
Franchised as Allen's Martial Arts in Gingin, where the journey began.
Moved to Nedlands Primary School, bringing martial arts closer to Perth's western suburbs.
Opened the first dedicated dojo at 23 Government Road, Nedlands.
Rebranded as Phillips Dojos. Glen named Zen Do Kai Instructor of the Year.
Moved to our current home at 14 Government Road, a larger, purpose-built facility.
Rebranded as SOFMA, School of Freestyle Martial Arts. New identity, same family values.
Still going strong, with 25+ years of teaching, hundreds of students, and a dedicated team of instructors.
The SOFMA family
Each with its own identity and focus.
